Hello everybody and welcome to Tower-Marketing! If you’re here, it’s more than likely you have come looking for an SEO Agency that can skyrocket your businesses revenue. This video is going to give you 5 tips on choosing the RIGHT SEO company to do business with. Let’s hop on my computer for this short presentation.
Tip 1 – Watch out for blanket pricing
Many companies offer 3 packages for SEO. If you see these cookie-cutter SEO packages, go the other way. Every business is different and needs time and dedication to create the right marketing plan for your business. A personal injury attorney needs to be handled much differently than a bakery selling birthday cakes, and blanket pricing does not offer the flexibility to be effective for all types of businesses.
Along with blanket prices, you want to also look out for individuals charging low prices like $499 or $599 per month. That’s just too good to be true. There is just no way someone can earn your business an extra 10k, 20k, 50k, or more per month by charging $125 per week. If you think about it, that’s actually less than what a part time fast food employee makes. That’s not the person you want responsible for working on your most important marketing tool, which is your website and reputation.
Tip 2 – Can they rank for difficult keywords
If you came to this website, chances are you searched for something like Knoxville SEO. If you go to Google and type in any city + seo, and you will find some of the most competitive companies around. SEO agencies fight tooth and nail to be on the top of these pages. Ask yourself, if your SEO agency isn’t listed on the first page and are losing the battle to other, better SEO’s in your area, what kind of results will they, or can they, provide to your business.
Tip 3 – Don’t hire your IT guy or Web Developer to do SEO
Just because someone works in an IT related field, does not mean they know how to do SEO, 99% don’t even have a clue. I have had companies request my detailed marketing plan and then run it by their IT person for their approval. The truth is they want to keep their job security and don’t want you to know they don’t have a clue how to get it done, but if they did, you would already have been ranking highly and getting the revenue desired.
Now don’t get me wrong, IT guys are important to your infrastructure, and web design is a great talent, but a pretty looking website is not going to bring you traffic or revenue. They are similar to architects. The person who designs a hospital is not the person performing the surgery inside it.
I have many years of IT experience with fortune 500 companies prior to a change to the marketing field, SEO is a different field entirely. Ask yourself, does being your IT guy or web developer qualify them to be marketing or revenue generating experts?
Tip 4 – Make sure SEO is their full-time occupation
There are no regulations or licensees stating who can work on your website, so many SEO’s have full-time professions and use SEO to supplement their income. They bought some $49 course in a box that makes them think they are an expert. A real SEO spends thousands of dollars a year to stay on top of the constantly evolving trends, and is in the trenches day in and day out testing and re-evaluating their methods, which makes them experts in their field. For anyone that has the ability to turn a website around and make an additional 10 to 50k per month, this is a very lucrative business and definitely one that isn’t going to be part time.
Tip 5 – Make sure your SEO Agency is not going to be outsourced to another company
Many low-cost providers will outsource their SEO work to cheap SEO providers overseas. These are typically companies that charge blanket pricing. They are not true SEO’s, but are more like salesmen. They find a low-cost provider on a forum with a pretty design like the Capt Jack Sparrow package or Lady Gaga package and make a quick buck. Now your website is in the hands of an unprofessional group of people that don’t care about you or your business, and will eventually wind up hurting your website in the long run.
This isn’t always the case however. Some SEO’s who are not confident in their abilities will take their toughest cases and give them to professionals such as Tower Marketing. We still charge the same to them as we would you, but you are now paying the middleman too.
So there you have it, 5 tips for choosing an SEO Agency. Just for quick review:

- Can the agency rank for difficult keywords, and prove it
- Don’t hire your IT guy or Web designer to do SEO
